Starting School in Nursery & Reception

Welcome to the Vauxhall Family - we look forward to welcoming you and your child in September!  As we are unable to have our normal induction meetings in school this year we have put together some useful information to help prepare your child for starting school.

Induction Process

ONLINE VISITS

As part of the induction process, we would usually come and visit you in your home and meet your child and family.  As we cannot do this at the moment we would like to schedule an online visit instead to go through the Home Visit Form, which will help us to get to know you.  Please CLICK HERE for our Home Visit Online Meeting Agreement form - we ask that you read this through prior to your meeting.

MOUSE CLUB

We have also included a Summer Pack of Activities called Mouse Club Activity Cards.  All of these activities you can complete at home during the summer in preparation for starting school; some of the links in the document can be reached by using your camera on your phone to access the link.  Just hold up your camera and point at the scan code, where it states Scan me.  This will then link you with an activity.

ALL ABOUT ME

We would also like you fill in an ALL ABOUT ME worksheet and email it back to us (along with one photo of your child, and one photo of your family) so we can make a display in your child's classroom ready for when they start.  We have a guide for parents to help you complete it HERE.  Please email these to us at admissions@vauxhallprimary.org.uk

Helping to prepare your  child for school

We would like to recommend that you read some stories with your child about starting school.  There are a few links here for you to do this.  You can talk to your child about going to big school and what they will need to learn how to do.  Here are some great stories, please click on each link to access the story:-

There are also some really useful games and activities to do with your child about starting school here.  Please click on the link and complete the game:-

The simple things can be really helpful, too: getting familiar with numbers, letters and sounds, what their name looks like, singing nursery rhymes, and just doing things with your children like baking, getting out in the garden or your local park if you have one and simply chatting with them.

There's also advice on how to make your home a fun learning zone, and films to help your child develop independence skills like using the toilet and getting into good sleep habits.

If you've had a look at the Mouse Club Activities then you might recognise who it is giving you and your child a tour of their classroom below!

 Documents needed by the school

At induction meetings there are also a few forms needed by the school that we would normally ask you to complete on site.  You can post these to the school or email to admissions@vauxhallprimary.org.uk
