Starting School in Nursery & Reception
Welcome to Vauxhall Primary School - we look forward to welcoming you and your child to our school. We have put together some useful information to help prepare your child for starting school.
We have a Summer Pack of Activities called Mouse Club Activity Cards. All of these activities you can complete at home during the summer in preparation for starting school; some of the links in the document can be reached by using your camera on your phone to access the link. Just hold up your camera and point at the scan code, where it states Scan me. This will then link you with an activity.
ALL ABOUT ME
We would also like you fill in an ALL ABOUT ME worksheet and email it back to us (along with one photo of your child, and one photo of your family) so we can make a display in your child's classroom ready for when they start. We have a guide for parents to help you complete it HERE. Please email these to us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Helping to prepare your child for school
We would like to recommend that you read some stories with your child about starting school. There are a few links here for you to do this. You can talk to your child about going to big school and what they will need to learn how to do. Here are some great stories, please click on each link to access the story:-
- Jellybean goes to school
- The Pigeon has to go to school
- Topsy and Tim Start school
- Harry and the dinosaurs go to school
There are also some really useful games and activities to do with your child about starting school here. Please click on the link and complete the game:-
The simple things can be really helpful, too: getting familiar with numbers, letters and sounds, what their name looks like, singing nursery rhymes, and just doing things with your children like baking, getting out in the garden or your local park if you have one and simply chatting with them.
If you've had a look at the Mouse Club Activities then you might recognise who it is giving you and your child a tour of their classroom below!
Documents needed by the school
At induction meetings there are also a few forms needed by the school that we would normally ask you to complete on site. You can post these to the school or email to email@example.com
Your child can either bring in a packed lunch from home or they can have a school lunch. School meals cost £2.50 a day and are paid for online via ParentPay (you will get your login details once your child has started). You can see more information from our caterers HERE and the menu for next term HERE.
Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will automatically get a free school meal as part of the Universal Free School Meals government offer (please note Nursery is not included in this offer).
However, this is not the same as Free School Meals which are provided for parents in receipt of certain benefits. If you would to check your eligibility for Free School Meals then please complete and return the form HERE - this would mean that you are eligible for discount on certain school trips and on our after school activities as well as school meals.
